The American Romantics create musical reimaginings which vividly highlight the richness of classic American literature of the 19th century. Using texts by Melville, Hawthorne, Dickinson, and others, this lyric dramatic ensemble blends equal portions of narrative, classical singing, and original music to transport the audience to another time and place.
"Bradley Detrick's 'American Romantics' project is one of the most entertaining and intellectually stimulating ideas and events I've seen in a long time."
Geoffrey Owens, Actor/Teacher/Director
"The evening was a brisk and graceful dance through the riches of our literature--American literature--scored beautifully and presented flawlessly. The musicianship, the intelligence guiding which texts were chosen, the elegance and wit of presentation, made me question why we were in a lovely but small store front space on 43rd Street. Although I am grateful to have been there that evening, what I saw and heard deserved a much larger audience."
Bart Teush, Former Director of Undergraduate Studies, Theater Studies at Yale University
"I had the privilege of experiencing the Detrick’s evening of original works based on the writings of American authors of the 1800’s. The program was rich in music, narrative, songs and period costumes, a true delight in every way. I eagerly await the next performance!"
Elizabeth Brewster, Actor
